Technical challenges: OK, I take back what I said about never piecing another quilt. This is a hybrid of piecing and collage and was even more fun than collage by itself. Once again, except for the pieced block and the borders, there was no sewing involved in the assembly and there is no quilting at all. The purists out there who insist that it's not a quilt without quilting are welcome to call it whatever makes you happy.
To start at the beginning: The 25-piece block was one of four I made several months ago. The original concept was a four-seasons quilt using only leaf patterns from stash fabrics. So I made the four leaf blocks and spent weeks trying to figure out how to put them together. Every possible solution was a quilt much larger than I wanted to make. So I decided to make four smaller quilts instead, and that opened up a whole new direction for the collage. Someday maybe I will make the other three.
