Cotton 6-strand embroidery floss on muslin, cotton fabric borders and backing.

The original plan for this piece had four columns and geometric regularity (still visible in some areas) but became more organic as I went along. The original squares that look like chain-link fence were followed by wavy lines that looked like rivers, then angled lines that looked like mountains, then a sun and a sunset and buildings and bridges and boats and trains and roads and fields, and it ended up being a little world in running stitches. Could not have designed this in advance, each section flowed into the next.
