Noshi 2
19" x 15.5", August 2024

Cotton fabrics. Fusible web appliqué, finished with facings.
Technical challenges:  This was my first original quilt done entirely in the collage style taught by Penny Hanscom. The design is borrowed from a contemporary Japanese screen. The process involves making a fusible pattern for every element of the image and then figuring out what sequence to assemble it in, working from background to foreground. There is not a stitch of hand or machine sewing on the entire quilt top and it's magically easy to rearrange the pieces until it looks right (although the more complicated the design, the more domino effects on the rest of the piece and the harder this turns out to be). This was so much fun that I'm not sure I will ever want to piece another quilt block again.
