Bamboo and Waves
39.5" x 23", November 2020
Cotton fabrics. I loved the graphic design of these characters but have no idea what they mean. Quilt top construction is in the hachi style developed by Patricia Belyea. Tied quilt at block corners with cotton floss.
Technical challenges:  Cut out all the block components from fabrics with other images on them, so each piece had to have the right graphic on it, in the right orientation, with enough room for seam allowances, as well as excluding details I didn't want. The bamboo, for instance, was closely interspersed with dragons and pagodas. I also had barely enough fabric for the quilt border and had to match the pattern across seams so the design would look continuous (center top and bottom).
