Stamped Leaves
11" x 18", October 2025
Silk and cotton fabrics, ink stamps, 1-strand cotton floss.
Technical challenges:  This project was inspired by the ink-stamped pieces in the Ruth Asawa exhibit at SF MOMA, though I bought my stamps at a store instead of making them out of potatoes. The silk background absorbed the ink nicely but frayed so fast that it nearly took the top edge and side embroidery with it, so I had to abandon my original finishing plan and hand-sew it to the background fabric. The lower edges of both the silk and its cotton background are floating rather than stitched. This was intentional for the silk, accidental for the cotton (seam allowance turned out to be too small). Borders are wrapped around to the reverse side and mitered into place.
