Cotton fabrics, 1-strand cotton floss, postage stamps.
This project began as a class at textileartist.org: making a stitch portrait based on a photograph, in my case a 1940s black-and-white photo of my dad and his two younger brothers. (They were all much more attractive than my rendering.) Dad had a large stamp collection and it was fun to pick out stamps from the era of this photo to commemorate a time when imperfect but intelligent, well-meaning adults ran the country. Attached the stamps without thinking about their perforated edges. Was able to scrape the extra adhesive off both the quilt top and the appliqué sheet but it would have been smarter to just use smaller pieces of fusible web.
