Cotton fabrics, origami paper, craft paper. Fusible web appliqué. Hand-embroidered with 3-strand cotton floss. Machine-quilted.
Some pieces start with materials rather than any idea of what to do with them. Collected fabric and paper, looked at them for awhile, and started experimenting. A curved-piece quilt top became the base. Did the appliqué before the embroidery but it might have worked better the other way around, and been easier on the thin sections and corners of the paper. Tried several embroidery stitches I'd never used before so a few areas had to be extracted and re-done.
I keep forgetting to leave wide enough margins for borders/facings. The appliqué and embroidery now trapped in the edge seams made final assembly harder than necessary.
