Cotton and cotton flannel fabrics. Machine-quilted, bound with flannel facings.
Technical challenges: This was the first quilt I'd made that was intended to be used by a baby and machine-washed often, as opposed to hung on a wall. So there was lots of basting to keep the layers aligned and lots of construction reinforcement to help keep it intact. Took a very long detour to learn how to do bias-cut double-fold bindings, which turned out to be not at all useful for this particular quilt. The experts in my local quilting group suggested finishing with facings, which was a much better idea. Ray said, "Can't you make it so he can open those little windows?" I said, "No."
